History & Story
andBeyond designs personalised high-end tours in 15 countries in Africa, five in Asia and four in South America, offering discerning travellers a rare and exclusive experience of the world as it should be. Operating 29 extraordinary lodges and camps in iconic safari, scenic and island destinations in Africa and South America which enables us to positively impact more than 9 million acres of wildlife land and 3 000 kilometres of coastline. Established in 1991, andBeyond strives to leave our world a better place than we found it through our care of the land, wildlife and people, and the delivery of extraordinary guest experiences.
Kichwa Tembo, located in the masai mara in Kenya, means “head of the elephant” in Kiswahili, named after the founders of the camp discovered elephant skulls around the nearby Saparingo River. The camps history was far more rustic, tying in with the establishment of classic photographic safaris, opening on 11 June 1982. Today, andBeyond Kichwa Tembo is a contemporary lodge, offering all the comforts of modern life.
In 2001 the nearby luxury full inclusive 18 room Bateleur Camp was built.
Kichwa Tembo was completely rebuilt in 2014 with the Classic Tents and Bateleur Camp fully rebuilt in 2018.
