The Silo Hotel
History & Story
The Silo Hotel was built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex. The hotel occupies six floors above Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa) in the V&A Waterfront of Cape Town. Zeitz MOCAA houses Africa’s largest collection of contemporary African art in the world. The exterior of the building was designed by Thomas Heatherwick, Founder and Principal of the London-based Heatherwick Studio. The building retained much of its industrial features from when it was built in 1921 and with the integrate, floor to ceiling, pillowed glass windows that were added to the façade as well as Liz Biden’s colourful interiors, the hotel has become a masterpiece in architecture and design.

The Silo houses its very own collection of contemporary African art. Over 250 works can be found throughout the hotel, many of which are artists also represented in Zeitz MOCAA.

Restaurants & Bars
Situated on the sixth floor of the hotel, The Willaston Bar is named after the first ship to export grain from the original silo complex back in 1924. With stunning views of Cape Town through the 5,5m high pillowed glass windows, there is no better place to enjoy a classic cocktail or a glass of wine from the carefully crafted and ever evolving list of local and international wines. The Granary Café, also situated on the sixth floor, is a more private space where guests can enjoy breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and a selection of Afternoon and Royal Teas. The menu inherits the same comfortable, eclectic and contemporary style as Liz Biden’s hotel interiors. The Silo Rooftop offers guests a relaxed, al fresco experience with spectacular panoramic views of Cape Town from the tallest building in the V&A Waterfront. Poolside lounging is complemented with treats from the tempura bar, fresh oysters, pulled pork sandwiches, and a selection of healthy snacks from our raw bar.
The Silo Spa, located on the fourth floor of The Silo Hotel, has five treatment rooms, two of which can be made into a couple’s room. The Silo Spa is a tranquil space in which guests can relax and indulge in the latest therapies and spa techniques. There’s also a gym, sauna and a dedicated manicure and pedicure area.
