General Manager Mr. Rene D. Egle took his role in late 2011 and brought a lot of positive change to the resort. Mr. Egle studied Economics and Hotel Management and Hospitality from Germany. He Joined Shangri-La in 2003 as Resident Manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta. Rene Egle has also worked in Shangri-la Hotel, Dubai and Traders Hotel, Dubai. He also worked in Beijing and Hong Kong and has almost more than 18 years of hotel management experience.

The first luxury resort to the South of the equator and one of the biggest resort islands, Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort&Spa, Maldives opened in 2009. The Cool Zone for children is the place to find toys, educational activities and lots of land and beach-based activities to ensure a fun-filled vacation for the children. Younger guests aged between four and twelve are welcome. Babysitting is available for toddlers.
Seven distinctly styled villas are each equipped with modern conveniences and luxurious amenities. Dr. Ali’s leads the restaurant selection with three distinctive living rooms that focus on fine cuisine from the Indian Ocean, the South China Sea and the Arabian Gulf. Fashala lounge offers stunning views of the ocean and gourmet dishes created with local ingredients many of which come from the Chef’s Garden on the island. CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La is a secluded sanctuary located in its own spa village within the resort, with spacious individual treatment villas. There is also a unique yoga pavilion overlooking the Indian Ocean, and individual treatment villas with private gardens and steam rooms.
