The Nautilus Maldives
History & Story
Conceptualized by a Maldivian hospitality icon and visionary entrepreneur who was instrumental in creating many award-winning resorts, The Nautilus is the result of his lifetime’s worth of expertise and represents what ultra-luxury should be – not just in the Maldives, but worldwide. The legacy of this visionary entrepreneurship is now carried forward by the next generation of the family. A celebration of the individual spirit, The Nautilus offers liberation and freedom unconditional. Space to share, to meet, where guests are encouraged to be themselves and shape their own personal journey. Above all, The Nautilus champions its guests to reflect and celebrate with the people they’re with, in any way they choose. Because in the end, it’s these simple, elemental pleasures – that ability to simply be – that form the greatest luxury of all.
The Nautilus has gained phenomenal international recognition within just one year, most notably within Condé Nast Traveller’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2020 as the ‘Best Resort in the Indian Ocean’ and being recognised among the top 3 ‘Best Resorts in the World’. The Nautilus is also within Condé Nast Traveller’s highly prestigious ‘The Gold List’ 2021 as well as Tatler’s renowned Travel Awards 2021 as ‘Best Private Island Retreat’. Most recently, The Nautilus has been recognised within Condé Nast Traveller Middle East’s ‘The Gold List 2021’ and Condé Nast Traveler US’ Readers’ Choice Awards 2021 ‘Top Indian Ocean Resorts’.

Main Strengths, Special Touch
At The Nautilus, you can eat when you’re hungry, have breakfast for dinner, drink champagne in bed. Here, time stops. There are no clocks, no fixed opening hours, no fixed restaurant hours. Every moment is fluid, every experience is not yet written.
Each house and residence is served by a professionally-trained private butler, the House Master, who ensures that every aspect of a guest’s stay are tailored to their every preference and whim – whenever, wherever, and however they please.
Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
Key sites/activities in the area
• Over 30 dive sites around the resort
• Hanifaru Bay, the jewel of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, where the world’s largest concentration of manta rays may be seen from June to November. Whale sharks can be spotted here, too.
• Home to the largest living wall in the Indian Ocean
Planted with over 20,000 dhun’gethi bushes [Clerodendron inerme], this natural wall is a sustainable way to provide shade, privacy, and a cooling green backdrop to the landscape. The surrounding trees in the landscape mature and cast a shady canopy over sections of the walls other plant species such as ferns will be introduced. The wall is watered either by natural rainfall or, in dryer weather, by reclaimed ‘grey water’ from the water treatment plant. At 330 meters long, it runs around the middle of the island, separating guest areas from the team member village, and varies from three to six meters in height, covering a total area of 1,700m².
• All our pools are equipped with a temperature control system
Boasting some of the Maldives’ best childcare facilities, Young Wonderers is a playful hub within the center of the island, signifying the base for the extraordinary education program The Nautilus offers. Young Wonderers caters to children 3 years and above.
At The Nautilus, only 26 villas line our shores. Each beach or ocean house is a personal sanctum, with its own separate living room and private infinity pool. Each abode is individually fashioned to our guests’ preferences and tastes.

Nine elegant beach houses line our silvery shores, each just a few steps from the sea. Each bedroom adjoins a living room that opens up to a wide, private Maldivian-style sun deck, sheltered by manicured gardens, overlooking the beach. Indoor and outdoor showers invite sensuous tropical restoration.

Two Ocean Residences (1 Bedroom)
These generous residences epitomise bohemian bliss, spanning our lagoon with stilts and a glass-floor panel. A refined, spacious living room and separate bedroom are both thoughtfully furnished and decorated to create a welcoming cocoon of comfort. An additional dining room, with adjoining powder room and wet bar, open onto a vast sun deck and infinity pool, literally steps from the ocean below.

The Nautilus features two exquisite two-bedroom beach residences, perfect for families or groups of friends. Panoramic ocean views stream into every room, with one bedroom downstairs – coupled with living and dining spaces and powder room – and a spacious master bedroom upstairs.
