History & Story
The historic home was built in the 1920s and reflects the Art Deco-Nouveau style of the era. The house was built on an important site, right in the heart of the historic center of Quito, across from one its most important churches, San Francisco. The mansion belonged to the Gangotena family, wealthy land-owners of the time, and various public figures stayed and lived there between the 19th and 20th centuries. The house was purchased by the present owners from the last Gangotena sisters who lived in it.
The entire mansion was re-built from the inside in order to accommodate the 31 rooms and public areas. A whole basement was excavated. All the structure was reinforced. The architect of the renovation was Pedro Jaramillo, and the designer Diego Arteta, both Ecuadorian. A redesign of the restaurant and loggia was implemented in November 2015, with the design of Julio Vinueza
