As the first capital of Brazil, from 1549 to 1763, Salvador witnessed the blending of European, African and Amerindian cultures. The city has managed to preserve many outstanding Renaissance buildings. A special feature of the old town are the brightly coloured houses, often decorated with fine stucco-work.
Key sites/activities in the area
Gilded the interiors of São Francisco´s church and convent are awe-inspiring, to say the least. The Portuguese-Baroque architecture and detailing are among the best examples in all of Brazil, making this stop well worth the time. The intricate artwork and gold-covered ceilings demand you slow down and look up for a good while during your visit. Hop on the Elevador Lacerda and experience the two divisions of Salvador: the upper and lower city. Built in 1873, the elevator is 236 feet (72 meters) high. At the top, don’t forget to snap a pic of Baía de Todos os Santos, or All Saints’ Bay, where you’ll have a great panoramic view.
The apartment 106 is the former room of the presidency of the newspaper A Tarde, and has preserved the original parquet floor and Jacarandá panels, as well as the plaster decorations that have been restored. The original design of the bedroom doors has also been preserved. Another original detail that was kept were the upper windows of the doors, transformed into lamps.

RESTAURANT FASANO SALVADOR
The gastronomic experience of the Fasano Restaurant brings the legacy of Italian origin cuisine that bears the signature of the restaurateur Rogério Fasano. The menu is similar to that in São Paulo, located inside the Hotel Fasano São Paulo, with a variety of antipasti, pasta, meats, risottos and fish. “The Fasano Restaurant of our Salvador hotel offers some flagship Italian cuisine: the Costoletta Allá Milanese, the Filetto di Manzoalla Rossini, the Veal Ossobuco with White Wine and Herbs and the Spaghetti Allá Carbonara. The cuisine has the Fasano DNA, dedicated to the Italian classics, and local Bahian dishes signed by Tereza Paim”, says Rogério Fasano.
The Spa is an attraction in itself with rituals that revitalize body and mind to ensure all-round well-being. With three massage rooms and a wet sauna, the Spa is signed by the massage therapist and holistic therapist Fabrícia Nogueira, who prepared an exclusive treatments menu for the Bahia experience. Not only guests but passers-by can also take advantage of services by appointment.
