Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Alicudi, Filicudi, Panarea and Stromboli: the seven sister islands rise from the Tyrrhenian sea at about forty kilometers from the Sicilian coast, and have a history and mythology that date back thousands of years.
The Aeolian Islands are volcanic islands that according to the legends were created by Aeolus, god of the winds. Inhabited since prehistoric times, they were always in the crossroads of the Mediterranean civilizations and a source of nature’s mythological expression.
Key sites/activities in the area
Rich vegetation, the most abundant of the Aeolians, and a deep blue sea that meets the sun wrapping the island in a thousand colors. Salina is the island for tranquility and peace.
Salina is a UNESCO heritage site and a natural reserve since 1981. There are panoramic trekking routs that lead up to “Monte dei Porri”. The tour of the “Fossa delle Felci” mountain is a must; it has numerous plant and animal species, from which there are views of the Sicilian coast and also Mount Etna.
A crystal clear sea meets high dark cliffs spotted with lush vegetation: circumnavigating the island of Salina, with a boat or “skiff” (typical fishing boats), is a breathtaking experience, which allows to discover secret corners of the coast and to swim in uncontaminated waters. Salina is exactly in the center of the archipelago: there are daily excursions to all of the other islands by boat or hydrofoil.
Families with children are welcome in some of our rooms that are adequate due to their size and location. Although it is not an “adults only” concept we inform parents with small children (under the age of 12) that Salina is not equipped with attractions, programs and beaches for them.
Number of rooms in all: 27
Each room is different from the other, with a private terrace or garden facing the sea or the mountain. Surrounded by fifteen acres of vineyards, they are divided in 6 types: Standard rooms; Superior double rooms; Junior Suite, Suite Exclusive and Suite 21 and Suite II Faro.
From the terraces, shaded by the native trees, it is possible to see in the distance the outlines of the islands of Stromboli and Panarea, a breath taking view, at the edge of a cliff above the sea. The typical Aeolian architecture meets a minimal design style.
Restaurants & Bars
Young Sicilian Chef Gabriele Camiolo along with his culinary brigade interprets the passion of the Tasca d’Almerita for good food, a deep and rich gastronomic history that combines the lessons of the “monsù” (cooks of the Sicilian and Neapolitan aristocratic houses) and the peasant knowledge of the ancient Sicilian fiefs, reaching up to the present day. A journey of taste and ethics that goes through the concept of “short kilometer”: a system of gardens supplies 70 percent of the produces used in the kitchen. The ancient grains for bread, pasta and other genuine products come from Regaleali estate. Among these, the bread of Capofaro, awarded by the Gambero Rosso 2018 Restaurant Guide as “Best Bread on the Table” in Italy.
The vineyard surrounds a fresh water pool with a sundeck. The relax area is immersed in the nature under a small pine grove and the massage area is in the garden cottage.
A fitness corner includes a paddle tennis court, e mini soccer field and a ping pong.
The island of Salina offers numerous trekking paths leading through the emblematic extinct volcanos, that had formed it.
