Hotel General Manager
Véronique Allegre-Concedieu : A very young 40 year-old manageress, who already has a fine career behind her with a driving force : Human contact.
As soon as she finished her studies, she joined the Lucien Barrière Group, starting out as restaurant controller at the Royal Deauville, then at L’Hermitage in La Baule. Here she became purchasing manageress, management controlleur, then deputy manageress in charge of production. In 2007, her career took an important turn when, at the age of 32, she took over the management of the “Relais & Châteaux” Castel Marie-Louise in La Baule, thus becoming the first female manager of a hotel establishment in the Barrière group. In 2011, she became manageress of L’Hermitage Barrière, also in La Baule, a 5-star hotel with 200 rooms that she knew well.
It was in October, 2014, that Véronique Allègre joined the Grand Hôtel de Saint-Jean-de-Luz and prepared its re-opening. “After a wonderful experience in a large group, I was looking for an hotel on a human scale, to be closer to both the teams and clients,” explains Véronique.

GRAND HOTEL THALASSO & SPA
History & Story
In 1900, the town’s first hotel, first called “Terminus” then “Hôtel de la Plage”, opened its doors. Four years later, it was devastated by a fire. The building rose from its ashes in 1909: renamed “Modern Hôtel”, it was quite dazzling for its “Belle Époque” charm with a magnificent rotunda facing the sea. Acquired by the Royal Monceau Group in 1982, it was again renamed as the “Grand Hôtel”. The building was transformed by extensive refurbishment. The Grand Hôtel was then comprised of 52 rooms and a listed facade.
On the eve of the year 2000, the current owner fell for the charm of this fine residence and turned it into a real 5-star hotel with a gastronomic restaurant and top-notch oceanic thalasso spa. Its “Belle Epoque” architecture, the ocean and views of the sandy beaches further enhance its indisputable charm.
Since the re-opening of the Grand Hôtel Thalasso & Spa in June, 2015, a new page has thus been turned… The eight months of renovation work have ensured real freshness for this historic hotel while preserving its Art Deco charm.
Completely renovated in 2015 by French interior designer Patrick Ribes

Main Strengths, Special Touch
Between Tradition and Modernity: Beautiful light, refinement and high-quality service characterize the Grand Hôtel Thalasso & Spa, standing proudly at the edge of the bay os Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
Directly accessible from the lobby and guest-rooms, the top-notch Loreamar thalassotherapy centre in-vites you to discover the benefits of seawater treat¬ments while enjoying a view of the large beach.
As for the restaurant “L’Océan”, it has immediately become a “must” address on the Basque Coast for its panoramic teak terrace, elegant rotonde and the great food from the Chef Christophe Grosjean.
Between San Sebastian and Biarritz, cradled between luxuriant hillsides, Saint-Jean-de-Luz facing the Atlantique Ocean is an ideal starting-point for discovering the Basque Country, along the coast and in the hinterland.
Key sites/activities in the area
St Jean de Luz is an ideal starting-point for visiting the Basque Country (Biarritz, la Rhune, Espelette, San Sebastian, and Bayonne), surf, golf, fishing, craft, and fan of Pelota. A wonderful region happy to share sports activities, creativeness and festivities. How delightful to go shopping in the historic center of St Jean de Luz, just a few meters from the beach and the Grand Hôtel.
A meal in a “venta”: “There are many “ventas” (small local shops) on the Spanish border, mainly popular for cigarettes and alcohol. I would advise you to discover the ones that are less touristy and serve local dishes, simple but of good quality, with local ingredients. “La Burkaitz” on the French side offers a very lovely view. It is just after “Le Pas de Roland”, an historic excursion telling the tale of Charlemagne’s nephew, to be done on foot if you wish
The Train of La Rhune: “You board the train in Sare, 15-20 minutes from the hotel (on the French side of the border), and you won’t be disappointed by the ride, also enjoyed with the family, where you’ll meet the Pottoks (wild Basque ponies). In 35 minutes, you reach the top (alt. 905 metres), offering a magnificent view of Spain, the mountains and Bay of Saint-Jean-de- Luz.
