HOTEL CAFE ROYAL
History & Story
This luxury hotel in London enjoys an unrivaled setting on Regent Street steps from Piccadilly, where the elegance of Mayfair, the energy of Soho and sophistication of St. James combines. It’s where history, culture, business and the stage are just steps away. That’s one reason why, for 150 years, people who make a difference have made their way through these doors. For Oscar Wilde and Muhammad Ali, Winston Churchill and David Bowie, David Copperfield and Albert Adria, Hotel Cafe Royal have always been the vibrant living room of London, the place to convene, converse and celebrate.
2018 – Hotel Café Royal’s new lobby and guest arrival experience, designed by the world-renowned architect and interior designer Piero Lissoni and created with a total investment of almost £5m, delivers an outstanding and glamorous entrance to the hotel.
Main Strengths, Special Touch
Guests tell us the sheets are silkier, the curtains thicker, the silence more golden. At Hotel Café Royal, everyone seems to have their own story of a good night’s rest. The simple fact is, London’s most tranquil rooms are neighbors to the capital’s most vibrant cultural highlights. Opposites do attract, after all.
Hotel Café Royal is located on Regent Street where the elegance of Mayfair, the energy of Soho and sophistication of St. James combine. It’s where history, culture, and business are just steps away. Within walking distance are London’s finest shopping streets, tourist attractions, and theatreland.

Royalty also took to the place, and the Prince of Wales, later to abdicate as Edward VIII in order to marry Mrs. Simpson, and The Duke of York, later to become George VI, often took lunch at ‘The Café’, as latterly did Diana, Princess of Wales. The magnetic appeal of ‘The Café’ continued into the mid-20th century. The sexy charm of Brigitte Bardot, the romantic date of the bejeweled Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton and unforgettable visits of music and sports celebrities such as Louis Armstrong and Muhammad Ali were all part of ‘The Café’ routine. In 1973 David Bowie famously retired his alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, with a star-studded party, dubbed ‘The Last Supper’. Guests included the biggest rock stars of the time, such as Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, and many others.
