IL BORRO
History & Story
Mr. Ferruccio Ferragamo purchased Il Borro in 1993. He used to go hunting on property with previous owner, Duke Amedeo D’Aosta. Because of this passion he discovered this magic place. The hospitality project started a few years later and it is still going on. The origins of the village of Il Borro are lost in the history of medieval Tuscany and the famous people who established the reputation of the region. Every alley, every stone full of flavours and scents recall a rare and authentic Tuscany. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, in the shadow of the cypress trees of the ancient Via dei Sette Ponti, (an area rich in art and culture between the three main cities of Tuscany Florence, Arezzo and Siena), Il Borro is an open window to history, a fresco to a far away world. The Medici dynasty, the Savoia family and now the Ferragamo family have safeguarded and preserved this precious oasis suspended between past and present; a sanctuary dedicated to wellbeing and the art of niche hospitality.
Date Renewal
The Ferragamo family is personally in charge of every aspect of the estate and every year renovations are done on property.
Main Strengths, Special Touch
Conservation is at the core of everything we do at Il Borro. Preserving this treasure in a small corner of Tuscany requires commitment and responsibility. The passing of the centuries, and the events of the Second World War in particular, seriously injured the estate, damage that at one point seemed irreparable. As soon as they purchased the estate, the Ferragamo family began an extensive restoration project to return Il Borro to its former glory and preserve and improve the property for future generations. That project is now complete and Il Borro once again shines, a jewel in a Tuscan crown. In our medieval village, a Relais & Châteaux nestles in the picturesque Tuscan countryside. Il Borro offers charm and hospitality made-to-measure for its guests. An astonishing variety of activities and indulgences to suit the most discerning clientele. Understated luxury, wellbeing, food & wine and outdoor activities sum up Il Borro’s philosophy.

AIE: 18 brand new luxury suites opened in 2019
The Aie del Borro are rural buildings typical of the era of the Grand-Duchy of Tuscany, as can be deduced from the features of the main building. The Leopoldina, of considerable historic and cultural interest, features all the signature architectural elements of the period – the solid, rectangular shape, the loggiato or arched porch on the ground floor, the ballatoio or enclosed balcony on the first floor and a colombaia or dovecote on the roof.
Leopoldina and the three nearby farmhouses, Il Forte, La Posta and La Fonte, have all been meticulously renovated to preserve their original architectural features and safeguard local history. Today they offer hospitality in 18 new suites and rooms ideal for families or groups of friends.
A long avenue of holm oaks leads guests to the Aie dell Borro, set in in verdant countryside and surrounded by mulberry trees, oaks, lavender bushes, wild roses and geometrical aromatic herb gardens. The pool, the paddock with horses and the Vincafé offer guests the opportunity to relax and unwind. Vincafé is the ideal place to enjoy the surrounding nature while savouring a light lunch, an aperitif or a cocktail by the pool. The Aie del Borro are located in a strategic position on the estate, meaning guests are close to the heart of the resort and its amenities, which are just a few minutes’ walk away, or can be reached using the internal shuttle service.
