Hotel General Manager
Based on your career in hospitality and your passion for traveling, what are the ingredients to a great hotel?
Well, there really is no magic equation. I see it as more of an artistic pursuit combined with a healthy dose of attention to detail. Everything from the design of the guest rooms to the lighting of each space, from the mix of music environments to the vibrancy of the dining options, all of these elements need to come together to create an overall mood. The goal really is for guests to leave the hotel feeling invigorated and inspired but unable to pinpoint exactly which element made the experience so incredible. Much like how difficult it is to explain why a work of art is so moving.
The secret ingredient? Well it’s not that secret at all… It’s really all in the delivery and the team behind it.
If the service is not up to par, everything else falls apart. The general manager of a hotel is the orchestra conductor;and without the perfect ensemble of musicians, the symphony will come out all wrong.
How do you find inspiration?
I eat, sleep and breathe hospitality; to me, it’s all about thoughtful service. So when I travel and I’m away from my day-to-day, my senses are heightened. I’m always curious about how service is delivered across cultures and climates. Whether it’s an airport attendant, local shopkeeper or hotel bellman, I always take note of their subtle actions that make people feel welcome. I love coming back home and sharing these experiences with the team to inspire them and spark their creativity.
