Farmhouse Inn creates a personalized experience of The Russian River Valley through the deep relationships of our 5th generation Sonoma winemaking family owners. The Inn boasts an intimate 25 total rooms, One Michelin Star Dining, and a garden to table luxury Spa.
History & Story
The Farmhouse Inn story dates back more than a hundred years when, in 1911, a windfall in the hops market turned our Bartolomei ancestors’ Sonoma dream into reality. Fast-forward five generations (and decades of family celebrations under the olive trees, in the vineyards and around the kitchen table) and you’ll find siblings Joe and Catherine Bartolomei, who purchased a rundown inn a few miles from the great grandparents ranch in the Russian River Valley and turned it into one of the highest rated hotels in the world.
The origional Inn had 8 cottage rooms – last updated in 2011. In 2014-2015 we added $20 million into the back of the property adding 13 King Deluxe and 4 Luxury Suites, a new spa and reconfigured the grounds,

Main Strengths, Special Touch
Nestled in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma, the Farmhouse experience is an authentic wine country haven of stylish comfort, hand crafted amenities, and attention to every detail. We are surrounded by world class wineries and 100s of acres of vineyards. Our unique West County locations offers an incredible wine country experience with the added benefits of the majestic redwood forest and the breathtaking Sonoma Coast all within miles of the resort. With only 25 rooms we pride ourselves on the Inn’s intimacy and privacy, creating a feeling of visiting a private estate. Once at the resort you can enjoy our 13 year awarded Michelin-starred restaurant featuring the best of Sonoma dining and surrender to our Farm-to-Table Spa with customized, hand crafted rituals using ingredients from our fruit, flower and herb gardens.
One hour north of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, Sonoma County is what people imagine wine country to be – we have miles of rolling hills, studded with vineyards, farms, quaint towns and much less compression and a more multigenerational feel than our sister valley in Napa. In addition to the incredible 560 working vineyards we offer activities in the mighty redwood forests, river activities, and the Sonoma Coast runs for over 100 miles to the north. The main activities are wine and food, hiking, biking, hot air ballooning and wandering from small village to the next. The sophisticated lifestyle in a non pretentious setting creates an experience for the best of California living.
Key sites/activities in the area
Culinary teats at 560 working vineyards offering the best of Farm to Table dining in in the US featuring a vibrant artisanal movement with cheese makers, biodynamic farming, spirit makers, craft breweries and hand crafted arts.
Both owners of Farmhouse have ranches and vineyards that feed the resort and the Michelin Star dining room. They produce Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sarah, honey, micro greens, seasonal vegetables, all the eggs in the restaurant, turkeys for Thanksgiving, strawberries, citrus, figs and the menus are filled with their local produce. Also used in the spa and the artisanal soaps we use.
We are more of an adults retreat for couples’ celebrations. The Inn is an all King Bedded resort and most of the clients are visiting on a special occasion. The guests’ interest in staying at Farmhouse is very closely tied to the wineries and dining scene – so more an adult experience. We do love our children but we do not offer any special programing for children. Roll aways are available and we do have several rooms that can connect for families traveling together.
