HOTEL NAME
History & Story
Built in 1907, one of Napa Valley’s most iconic homes opened its doors. After just four short years, the home was converted into St. Helena’s first “resort” hotel by Herman Schultz, a Swiss hotelier. Schultz named his “hotel” the St. Gothard Inn, after a place in his homeland. The popular hotel featured a bustling restaurant that sat 50 people.
In 1921, the building became a hospital, as the tourism industry had diminished due to World War 1.
