The Raleigh Miami Beach
History & Story
The Raleigh originally opened on Miami Beach’s Collins Avenue in the 1940s. Established as the area’s most iconic Art Deco hotel, The Raleigh has maintained its noteworthy status for nearly seven decades. The hotel has welcomed a range of guests, from high-profile personalities to local vacationers, and even served as a housing facility for U.S. troops during World War II. The Raleigh is perhaps most widely recognized for its trademark pool, originally made famous by Esther Williams and often referenced as the most beautiful in America.
Main Strengths, Special Touch
Classic art deco historic hotel with old world charm and sophistication.
Located in the heart of Miami Beach, The Raleigh is ideally situated on the corner of 18th Street and Collins Avenue, the beachfront property offers views of both the dynamic cityscape and glistening ocean.
Key sites/activities in the area
Its location provides easy access to Miami’s most popular restaurants, stores and attractions including Lincoln Road, New World Symphony, and the Bass Museum. Miami’s Design District and Wynwood Arts District are located just 15 minutes south; world-class shopping at the renowned Bal Harbour Shops is 15 minutes to the north.
Singled out as the most beautiful pool in the world and center of the Miami Beach social scene in the pages of LIFE magazine, it is also quite possibly the most photographed pool in the world. Described as a “jewel” of modernist design, the dramatically scalloped lagoon with cascading waterfall has been the stage for Ester Williams’ wet ballets. Celebrity sightings over the years have included Marilyn Monroe, Esther Williams, Karl Lagerfeld, Clive Davis, Ben Stiller, Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Campbell, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones, Diane Kruger, Bobby Flay and Anthony Bourdain among many others.
