Captain / Skipper
Since 2009, guests have appreciated Jens talent for creating extraordinary experiences with wildlife, his spontaneous, friendly nature and his tales of swimming with Humpback whales and dolphins. One of the highlights of his career was in 2011 when he captained the Hanse Explorer on a successful expedition to summit Bouvet Island, the most remote island in the world.
Andriy started his career at sea in 2007 and joined the HANSE EXPLORER as deck cadet in 2007 while studying at the maritime college in Odessa.
After graduating, he re-joined Hanse Explorer in 2010 as a Nautical Officer. Three years later Andriy was promoted to Chief Officer and is now a Captain.
Hanse Explorer is one of few yachts in the world today that can be considered a true ‘Expedition Yacht’. Her steel hull has an A1 Ice Class rating and her powerful engine allows her to break through dense sea ice with ease.
Recent expeditions have taken Hanse Explorer beyond 82 degrees north latitude, south of the Antarctic Circle, and to many other equally remote destinations in-between. With state-of-the-art navigation equipment, a 8,000nm cruising range, the capacity to produce 20 tons of fresh water onboard every day and an extraordinary level of seaworthiness, Hanse Explorer is entirely self-sufficient for any long range exploration.
Main strengths, special touch
Hanse Explorer’s ice class rated hull allows the yacht to venture where most yachts simply can’t, making her perfect for ice-strewn polar waters.
Hanse Explorer has two Zodiac MK IV tenders and is fully equipped for SCUBA diving activities with a dive compressor and SCUBA equipment.
Hanse’s “Open Ship Philosophy” encourages guests to explore all areas onboard without restriction. Guests are welcome to take in the expansive view from the bridge as you watch the Captain maneuver through ice or spot wildlife. If interested in mechanics, head down to the engine room and talk with the Chief Engineer. If hungry or just wondering what’s for dinner, visit the fast-paced galley and see what our Chef is cooking up.
Her longstanding crew are truly a distinguishing feature of this unique yacht. They are enthusiastic and professional and embrace the expedition mentality and the love of the polar regions. Over the last 10 years, the EYOS team has worked closely with the Captain on every one of the yacht’s charters. This collaboration has ensured guests have maximized their time exploring, whether on zodiac cruises, onshore hikes while taking advantage of the naturalist interpretation onboard. Daily presentations and briefings from the EYOS team highlight the natural and geological features wherever the yacht is sailing and we encourage Hanse’s guests to actively contribute to the conversations and planning around the dinner table.
Hanse Explorer is a true world explorer and regularly charters in Antarctic and the Arctic. South Pacific expeditions are also scheduled for 2021.
No minimum age applies for exclusive charters.
Cabins and living space
Hanse Explorer can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in six (6) double staterooms and one (1) Owner’s Suite. All staterooms can be configured for either Queen or Twin sleeping arrangements. This ability to configure the rooms allows Hanse to be the perfect expedition yacht for families and special interest groups.
The six staterooms are comfortably appointed and nearly identical varying only by colour scheme. Each cabin has its own en suite. The Owner’s stateroom is situated on the upper deck with an en-suite and a private adjoining study/lounge.
Chef, Meals, Meals facilities, bars
The bar and lounge offer sweeping views and are the heart of the public areas. The yacht’s spacious interiors and a cozy atmosphere make for a relaxed travel experience. There is a library and movie collection for watching DVDs on the large flat-screen TV. A Bose audio system creates a great background for sipping a cocktail while telling stories of the day’s adventures. The ship’s bridge is also a popular spot, with guests often congregating there throughout the day, making it effectively another public room.
An outside bar and dining area add an exceptional al fresco experience to our expeditions.
Hanse Explorer has a Finnish sauna.
Corporate and celebration events
Hanse Explorer is often chartered by multi-generational families and small groups. EYOS clients who regularly charter larger yachts will come back to Hanse Explorer because of her professional and personable crew along with her expedition spirit that takes her where other yachts won’t venture.
